St John's

Forthcoming Events

Besides our regular services, the Community Hub activities and all the groups who use the hall weekly, there are other social events open to all our friends and neighbours. These are either organised by the church community or by local groups hiring the hall.

Coming Next

On Friday 30th November we will be holding another Games Evening with Supper. There will be a range of games, not always requiring a lot of energy, for everyone to try.

Recent Events

Thanks to everyone who came along to St John's to help us celebrate 60 years since the church first opened here. We started on Friday 28th September by sitting down together for a most enjoyable Harvest Supper, with delicious food to sustain us and the playing of Justin and Mairi to soothe us. On the Saturday lunchtime people started arriving with bags of apples (with or without bruises, maggots etc) for the Apple Pressing session. The team from Kidlington Abundance were on hand to turn all this into refreshing apple juice. That event segued in to Cream Teas, with scones, jam and cream washed down by tea or coffee. Some of the hall users came along to give displays of what they get up to - dance, rock music, zumba, ... And then on Sunday 30th our Morning Eucharist Service was very special. Not only did we have Arch Deacon Martin Gorick presiding and preaching, we had St Mary's choristers singing, our own Junior Church performing a presentation, the collecting of Harvest gifts (later taken to the Ley Community and the local Foodbank) and the baptism of baby Jakob.

All together a really great weekend!

As usual during the Autumn "half term", Summer and Easter school holidays, we held Craft Mornings for local children. Thanks to everyone who came along to enjoy themselves and keep the helpers busy! We all had a great time, and many fantastic things were made and eagerly taken home. Others just enjoyed playing with lego, play dough etc - and eating cake!

The Parish Quiz Night in February was another good evening, with plenty of (friendly) rivalry over some tough questions. And fish & chips or potato & chilli to fortify the little grey cells.
